CanSecWest 2019 Conference, The Annual Pwn2Own Contest, Gets A Tesla Model 3 To Be Pwnd

This year, on March 20-22 at the CanSecWest conference, the annual Pwn2Own, hopes to see that research expand into a new category, Automotive section contestants would be seeing and hacking a Tesla Model 3. Tesla Model 3 and other Tesla models are best selling cars have driven the electric car manufacturer to the top. Among others, Model 3 has quickly become the best-selling car in its class in the United States.
This year, the security researchers will need something bigger than laptop bag to take home the goodies. This year in addition to the usual laptops, they could take home a Tesla Model 3.

Tesla announced the partnership with Trend Micro, the Security research company that brings the annual event about. The partnership brings a Model 3 to be "pwnd," and to be the first electric and computerized vehicle in the competition's new "automotive category." Pwn2Own contestants are to find security issues with the Model 3 and if they Pwnd it, they could go home in a Tesla Model 3.
"We develop our cars with the highest standards of safety in every respect, and our work with the security research community is invaluable to us, we look forward to learning about, and rewarding, great work in Pwn2Own so that we can continue to improve our products and our approach to designing inherently secure systems."said David Lau, Tesla's vice president of vehicle software.
This years contest has Trend Micro partnering with Microsoft and has VMWare as a sponsor. The purse is also sizable and is over $1 million in cash and prizes will be available to researchers.

Talking about Tesla, this isn't Tesla's first foray into security around its vehicles. It already has a bug bounty program which was launched in 2014 with a purse of $10,000. :Last year Tesla bumped the the bounty from $10,000 to $15,000.
